5 steps to Growing Organic

   (Read 500+ times)
By Curtis White

Organic Gardening is gaining in popularity. More people are trying to find ways to reduce the toll on nature. And going Organic in the garden can help big time. So I came up with five ways you can Grow Organic.

#5 Stop using and get rid of Garden Chemicals.

There are a lot of cities where you can take poisons to be disposed of properly. They usually have Toxin Disposal days once or twice a year. We are talking chemical fertilizers and chemical dusts, sprays and the like.

There are safer alternatives to these chemicals.

#4 Buy and plant Disease and bug resistant plants.

In order to get a good organic garden going. Planting resistant plants will go along way to get it off on the right foot. Look for resistant plants in stores and online.

#3 Let nature take care of the bad bugs for you.

Let the ultimate gardener take care of the bugs for you. It will take some time for them to come back. But once they do and find bugs to eat they will want to stay and come back next year.

I think that Organic Gardening at least for me, means no chemicals at all. Even those sprays called organic (because they are made from plants) can kill the good bugs. The only spray I may use would be BT (Bacillus thuringiensis) because it targets certain pests.

#2 Practice proper gardening chores.

When looking over your garden, clean up any plant debris or diseased plant material. Water in the morning if you can and not right before nightfall. Keep distance between plants.

Cleaning up debris will go along way in preventing little unwelcomed guests on your plants. Whether that be a bug or disease. Not watering at night or right before nightfall can go along way to prevent disease on plants. Watering at dusk or at night will leave moisture setting on the leaves and stems of plants. Fungi may move in and make their self at home. If you must water at night, water at the base of plants and not the tops. These are just a few good gardening practices.

#1 Build the Soil.

One of the most important things a plant needs is a good loose but not too loose soil. A soil that will hold enough moisture but not stay soggy. A soil is where the plant has to stay all its life. So preparing and enriching your soil will go far in making your plant tenants happy.

Building soil up, consists of adding organic material to it. This organic material will break down by the process of decomposition. For more on building your soil check out the Organic Gardening Website

These are just a few tips on making a move to Organic Gardening.

Good Growing!
