Aerogarden Seed Kits

   (Read 500+ times)
By Patricia Wainwright

So, you bought an Aerogarden and now you need to grow something in it! The simplest way to buy seeds for your Aerogarden is as seed kits which come with 7 pods of plants and grow sponges. They are supplied with all the nutrients required for each plant plus growing instructions and maintenance is at most 5 minutes per week.

Before you buy

The Aerogarden seed kits you buy will depend on whether you have a 3-pod, 7-pod or tall version of the Aerogarden. On average, your plants will be ready to harvest in 3 to 4 weeks and will last for 4 to 6 months. Before buying your Aerogarden seed kits, remember that unless you are an experienced gardener, it is best not to mix the seed kits. This is because the plants grow at different rates with different leaf sizes; so, some faster growing plants could over-shadow and block the light from slower growing plants. The nutrients in each kit are specially tailored for the plants in that kit and you risk either underfeeding or over-feeding some plants if you mix the kits. In addition, the light cycles for your Aerogarden are pre-set depending on which Aerogarden seed kits you are using and you could therefore compromise your plants growth by giving them too much or too little light.

Types of seed kits

You are spoiled for choice when looking for seed kits. You can choose from salad kits, herb kits and flower kits. Each kit contains 7 pods; so, you get two growing cycles from your seed kit for your 3 pod Aerogarden or you can buy a three pod seed collection. Each of the customised Aerogarden seed kits allows you to choose the seven varieties that you want to grow. There are 5 salad varieties. In the herb kit, your choice is from 15 different types of herb. Certainly a good enough variety for most cooks! If you want to grow flowers, the custom flower kit contains a choice of 16 varieties. Alternatively, you can choose from 8 different flower collections; 5 different herb collections (including tea); cherry tomatoes, chilli peppers and salsa seed collections. There are also tomatoes and peppers available for the tall Aerogarden. You can also buy a “grow what you want kit” to use with your own seeds, perhaps collected from yours or a neighbour’s garden?

Where to buy your Aerogarden Seed Kits

Seed kits are available online from a variety of Aerogarden stockists all over the world and also from Amazon. Prices range from $10.95 for 3 pod seed kits to $19.95 for the customized Aerogarden seed kits.
