If you want to have more control over the growing environment of your organic plants, bring them indoors. They will be better protected against garden pests and insects, even for a full year or longer if you want.
How to Make the Transformation Growing Organic Plants outside to inside
It is actually not very hard to do. You only need to consider bringing in the hardy plants. By the time the growing seasons are done you will know which plants are good candidates to be brought inside. You must however prepare your plants to be brought inside just before frost begins.
- Extract the plant out of the soil with the entire root intact by digging deeply into the soil.
- Transplanting them into new potting soil right away.
- Carefully inspect your organically grown plants for harmful insects and remove if any or spray the plans with insecticidal soap.
- Give your organically grown plant a good watering.
- Place your land in any area which does not get a lot of direct sunlight to prevent the hardening process.
- Tend to your plant for a full week. Let it get used to the lack of direct sunlight train your plant by watering, trimming, and probably pruning.
- Once that week is over you can bring your organic plant inside.
The rule of thumb here is to give your plants five hours of sunlight per day. If you do not have direct sunlight inside you will have to use artificial lighting like fluorescent lighting by positioning it 6 inches suspended above the plant. In this case, leave the light on for at least 14 hours a day.
Temperature is also of importance. Don't let the temperature drop below 60°. If your organic plant experiences too frigid temperatures, it will not fare well. Drafty areas are also to be avoided.
Give your organic plant always enough moisture. Keep it damp by using gravel trays and keep the pot in water.
Growing your organic plants inside year-round is easy to do. You merely have to replicate the optimal growing conditions they would experience outside. When you know they prefer humid environments, simply replicate it inside.
If you follow these steps outlined above, you will have a healthy strong organic plant growing inside. Whenever you want a vegetable garden, but you do not have the room for it, know that you can always grow vegetables inside. It just takes a bit of planning and following a few steps properly.
