If you just don’t have time to sow your own seed or care too. Here’s a few tips I learned to choose the healthiest plants for you.
Of course make sure you're choosing the right plant for the right place. Sun for sun loving plants shade for shade loving plants. Moister lovers in moist parts of the yard, dry area’s for plants that can take it dryer. Ok my tips I’ve learned.
1. Go for the green. Leave the plants with a lot of yellow or dead leaves on the plant bench. Some yellow leaves are okay but if it looks like a sickly plant, leave it.
2. Say no to wilt. If I come across a plant that’s wilting I pass it by. I also pick up the plant to see if its due to lack of water or too much water. If the plant is not wilting but needs water I go ahead and buy it, if it looks healthy.
3. If it has pests, let it rest. Take a look at that plant you're buying. Take a close look under the leaves and on top of the leaves for pests and disease. Go for another plant if it’s infected.
4. A knock off the pot. Okay we’ve got the perfect plant, now knock off the pot to inspect the roots. Because the top part of the plant is only half the plant. Look for some nice fleshy white and firm roots . If the plant has brown mushy roots, it also has root rot. Pass by root bound plants, circling roots in a mass. Some circling roots are ok.
5. Plant and rip. Great the plants are home and planted in their proper spots. Now see all those pretty flowers? Pull them off. Because The plants need to focus on growing roots and leaves for now. If the flowers are left on the plant they will put all their energy into flowering and not growing into that nice deep fertile soil. When the plants bloom, they will reward you with more blooms.
If it’s a houseplant, don’t re-pot, wait a month or two.
