Compost Tumbler Selection Tips

   (Read 500+ times)
By David Trenbath

Many people avoid creating their own fertilizer because they are worried about the mess that it will make in their gardens. Traditionally, the fertilizer has been made from large piles of organic waste, but with a compost tumbler, you can place the waste in a unit that resembles a sealed trash can. This preserves the appearance of your garden and does not allow for a mess to be made.

The great advantage of creating your own fertilizer with a compost tumbler is that it allows you to save money, protect the environment, and improve the health of your garden. This type of fertilizer is rich in nutrients, which will help your plants and flowers flourish. Additionally, you will be reducing your contribution to the waste found in landfills.

For gardeners, a compost tumbler will eventually pay for itself, regardless of its price as long as it is used regularly. When you create enough fertilizer for your garden, it means that you no longer need to purchase it from gardening stores, which will save a great deal of cash in the long run.

One of the most important things to consider when selecting a compost tumbler is its size. You need to think about how much kitchen and garden waste your household produces regularly. Try to find a unit that can hold that amount of waste. However, you will also need to ensure that there is a suitable space for the product in your garden.

You may also want to consider the colour of the compost tumbler. If you are concerned about the appearance of your garden, you may want to select a unit that complements the colours of the plants and flowers in the garden. A traditional green unit will match any garden.

Since the costs of these products can range quite greatly, you should figure out how much you can afford to spend on an item. The price you set will also limit the sizes you are able to choose from, since a larger compost tumbler will cost more than a small unit.

Before purchasing a compost tumbler, find out how easy it is to use. You should find a unit that you can easily load waste into. It should also be easy for you to turn the unit regularly and empty its contents into your garden.

Since the goal of a compost tumbler is to make it easy for you to create fertiliser and possibly speed up the process, you may want to select a design that introduces a good amount of oxygen into the mixture. These designs may feature internal compartments and a rotating internal mixer.
