Container Gardening Roses

   (Read 500+ times)
By Patricia Wainwright

For some gardeners, the main reason to grow roses in containers is the inability of certain rose species to survive the frost outdoors. For others, it is to prevent animals and other pests from foraging through their precious blooms. Growing roses in containers is not easy and should be taken seriously as this requires more work. Growing roses is a lot easier when they are not in pots and narrow containers. When you池e certain that container gardening roses is the way to go, you値l have to make sure that you have a place to put the container during winter. Roses will freeze in frost when left outside. Contained roses should be kept in a heated indoor area that will give enough heat and light for winter. Also, when choosing an indoor place to store your roses, make sure that a water source is accessible since they will need watering once a month to encourage dormancy.

Before storing your container gardening roses, make sure to provide it with mulch and to spray it with insecticides. It will need all the protection and nutrients you can provide when it starts to go dormant.

The next thing you値l need is the right variety of roses for container gardening. Most container gardening roses are hybrid teas, floribundas, and tree roses. The most suitable, according to gardeners, is the Moonstone, which is a variety of hybrid tea roses. The Moonstone is not only vigorous but also very resistant to insects and diseases. It has three bloom cycles per season and produces the best-looking flowers, making your container garden a very interesting accent for your home. Other varieties that make excellent container gardening roses are Iceberg, Playboy, and Space. Iceberg and Playboy are tree roses that never run out of bloom during summer. The other varieties of hybrid teas that make excellent container gardening roses are Bell, Black Magic, Cajun Moon, Cajun Sunrise, French Perfume, Gold Medal, Just Dreamy, Marilyn Monroe, Mister Lincoln, and Signature. For floribundas, the following varieties are the ones that make great container gardening roses: Angelface, Gingersnap, and Lavaglut. Tamara, on the other hand is one of the most recommended container gardening roses for tree rose varieties.

Just Joey and St. Patrick are varieties of container gardening roses that can be grown as hybrid teas or tree roses. French Lace and Gruss An Aachen, on the other hand, are common container gardening roses that can be grown as floribundas or tree roses.

Other rose varieties that make excellent container gardening roses are the Pearl Palace and the Laguna Palace, which are both mini-floras.

So, before deciding to plant the rose variety you have in your home in a container; make sure that it is tested by experienced gardeners. Otherwise, you値l lose very expensive container gardening roses in your first try.
