Contemporary garden ornaments are items with contemporary designs that are utilized to enhance appearance of parks, gardens and landscapes. The first groups of people that made use of garden ornaments were Europeans and Asians. Garden ornaments were extensively used in ancient Roman, Japanese and Chinese gardens. Many Asian ones had a mystic flavour in them, with strong use of astrology principles, while Europeans ones were more about realism and balance.
There are many contemporary garden ornaments that are sold in garden supplies and home improvement stores. Contemporary stone garden ornaments are contemporary garden ornaments that are made out of stones or rocks. One material that is highly preferred by makers of these types of contemporary garden ornaments is cast stone. Although admittedly different from natural stone, it is hard to discern the difference between the two just by staring at them. Cast stone is made by crushing and re-bonding natural stones. It is stronger than concrete.
One word of caution about stone garden ornaments is that they not hold up well in very cold temperatures. If you live in an area with cold winters it is recommended that you empty the containers of your stone garden ornaments before the first frost. It is also advisable to put a flat structure where your stone ornament can stand on to prevent snow from reaching its base.
Contemporary metal garden ornaments on the other hand are contemporary garden ornaments that make use of metals. Although antiques in general are more popular, contemporary designs have their own unique appeal. Many metal based garden ornaments include wind chimes that produce soothing sounds once blown by breeze or wind. New ones are solar powered that can be turned on even at night.
Typical themes used in sculpting metal into garden ornaments are bird baths, sculptures, gateposts, water fountains, and columns. Metal garden ornaments are prone to rust so for protection you can apply some fresh coat. In cases where they are already showing signs of rust, you can scratch the affected areas with a wire brush then apply a new layer of paint. Also, good alternatives to traditional paints are wax and powder coat finishes.
Wooden garden ornaments have a very natural feel to them. Handmade ornaments which usually take a longer time to finish are inarguably more expensive than run of the mill ones. Contemporary garden ornaments are very beautiful and can easily blend in gardens or yards.
