Digging Power Tools

   (Read 500+ times)
By Patricia Wainwright

Digging is one of the hardest things to do in gardening. It’s the first step but it’s the most difficult. In other countries where agriculture is still the main industry, digging and tilling is still done manually. Plows remain their major digging tool, sometimes with the help of farm animals like oxen. Luckily, digging power tools have been available for some time now. Some of them are basic tools that have simply been improved; others are small motorized machine that can be run by gasoline or electricity.

The most common tools for digging are perhaps the spade and the shovel. They are simple, hand-operated and uncomplicated. Luckily, upgraded versions of these tools are now available. The common shovel and spade can now be digging power tools that can excavate small holes, loosen soil, and break up big clumps of it. The beauty of these tools lies in their portability and their ability to operate in smaller areas where wheeled digging power tools fail.

Even our favorite hoes have been upgraded. A lot of cordless power hoe models are now available for purchase online. These digging power tools are helpful in light cultivating and weeding. Models usually come with one pack of batteries and chargers, which are really functional and convenient.

Other handy digging power tools are portable backhoes that are available mostly online. These versatile tools are ideal for towing, driving, and digging. There are even different models that can go to places that bigger backhoes can’t reach.

For areas that require larger equipment, wheeled digging power tools like cultivators can be used. Cultivators are small motored tools that can till, mix soil with fertilizer and manure, and convert the soil to a tilth. These digging power tools can be run by electricity or gas but most prefer electric models that are more silent and easier to operate. Some models can even do edge-trimming, harrowing, scarifying, and weeding. Cultivators are handy but powerful enough to till and loosen compacted soil. Their tines or blades can turn soil into a fine texture, making it ready for planting. These digging power tools will not cost more than $100. They shouldn't be much of a burden to buy.

Rotary tillers or rotary plows are other motorized digging power tools that can till the soil. These are types of cultivators that have rotating tines or blades. They are mainly used for tilling small outdoor areas. These equipment can come in different sizes, from handy tillers to four-wheeled tractors that are ideal for farms and other agricultural areas.

There are a lot of digging power tools available on the market. Contact your local distributor and consult with experienced users and gardeners for the digging tool that will best suit your needs.
