Garden fencing is multi-purpose. A garden fence provides not only a visible and clear boundary between properties, but it also serves as a deterrent against pests and animals that prey on garden plants. Another useful utility of a garden fence is it can hide perceived eyesores in one’s property from the view of a passersby or onlookers. It can keep the eyesores out of view of the property owner as well. There are a variety of decorative garden fencing designs that one can choose from, ranging from affordable simple entry level designs to the high end elaborate and intricate finishes.
Wooden garden fencing is one example of a garden fencing design. Wooden garden fences are best suited for colonial homes or similarly designed home structures. Their rustic look complements well the elegant designs of these types of houses. Wooden garden fences are widely available in lumberyards and can be purchased per piece or in small parts. One popular variety is the split rail fences, which are available completely built and can be easily installed in a single day. The visual appeal of this type of wooden fence is it lends a countryside and homey feel to home gardens. One downside of this garden fencing variety is that it can easily be infested by pests and broken down by moisture from wet soil or inclement weather.
Wire garden fencing is a durable and strong fencing option. It provides sufficient protection against common garden threats like small animals and children. They are built for the long run and can be of service for many years. Also, moisture would not harm or damage this type of garden fencing and so constant or frequent watering would not pose a threat or cause structural problems.
Wire fences are highly resistant against pests and do not offer suitable nesting or breeding grounds for these harmful creatures, which are also known to feed on garden plants. One constraint with wire garden fences is design. They are unarguably less flexible when it comes to design possibilities as compared to wooden fences. They don’t offer the same kind of aesthetic appeal as with fences carved or made out of wood. They, however, offer more cost advantages than wood as they are considerably cheaper and more affordable.
Before putting up a garden fence, make sure that you have all the permits needed for such projects. If in doubt about where your property boundaries lie, it is best to seek legal help. You can also refer to community laws regarding fencing boundaries or allowable fencing space for houses in your area.
