Garden Windmills

   (Read 500+ times)
By Patricia Wainwright

Garden windmills are pieces of gardening equipment that for the most part are used for decorative purposes. Most garden windmills for sale are typically small enough to be unobtrusive, but significant enough in size to contribute to the landscape of your garden. Many garden windmills are miniaturized replicas of actual windmills. They can be made from different materials such as plastic, wood, and metal.

Decorative garden windmills unlike other garden windmills are used exclusively for decoration. Their size ranges from 8 feet to 20 feet. They can add a rural and countryside feel to your garden and can be made as a focal point in your yard. They are not meant to move to the direction of the wind and so they should be placed in areas where wind breeze is minimal. There are many styles, shapes and colors to choose from with small garden windmills for decoration and selections are ample.

Functional garden windmills on the other hand are not only beautiful to look at but are also useful. Use these windmills to power an electrical fence, provide water to your garden pond, or pump water to your flower and shrub beds. They are good pest deterrents since their movements can easily scare off cows, sheep, and squirrels. In addition, birds would also not be able to sit on their sharp blades.

Wooden garden windmills have been proven to be the most popular among gardeners. Garden windmills made by the Amish community standout from the rest for their outstanding craftsmanship and durability. They are handcrafted and made from high quality hardwoods, making them extremely durable. One of the more interesting designs for garden windmills is the classic Dutch windmill. This design has a timeless and universal appeal that almost anyone can appreciate.

When getting a wooden garden windmill, go for kits with natural wood finishes. These would normally look great at any yard or garden. In addition, should you choose to alter the look of your windmill to complement certain areas of your garden, ones that have natural wood finishes can be easily stained or painted over. On the other hand if metal garden windmills appeals more to you, it is recommended that you go for ones made of steel.

When buying garden windmills, make sure that they are easy to assemble. A good garden windmill kit should be simple enough to be put together using basic tools and should not require the intervention of a specialist.
