Gerbera Daisies (commonly known as Gerber Daisies) are an ornamental plant in the sunflower family with about 30 varieties. They have an extensive color range, including white, pinks, reds, oranges, and yellow shades. Sizes range from tiny blooms 2” in diameter to large, showy flowers approximately 5” in diameter. They are a perfect option to use in cut flower arrangements, bouquets, and centerpieces.
Because of their amazing variety in size and color, Gerber Daisies can be used for just about any occasion. They have long, strong stems so they are able to stand alone as a single flower in a bud vase or can be used as a base for more delicate blooms in a mixed bouquet. They will help support the stems of the more fragile flowers and greenery. Because of their strength, there is rarely a need to add wire supports to the flower stems.
Gerber Daisy Arrangements - Colors
Due to their wide range of colors, Gerber Daisies are particularly useful in themed or holiday arrangements. You can pair red and white Gerbers in a bright blue pot as a centerpiece for your Fourth of July barbecue. Mix yellow and orange Gerbers with fall leaves for a Thanksgiving floral arrangement. Use red, white and pink Gerbers in a Valentine’s Day bouquet for that special someone. You can even tint white Gerber Daisies by placing the cut stems in a vase of water tinted with food coloring. The food coloring travels with the water up the stem and tints the flower any color that you desire.
Gerber Daisy Arrangements - Centerpieces
Gerber Daisies can be used in all sorts of centerpieces. Try floating daisies in small fishbowls or votive candle holders. Make a multi-level arrangement with different sizes of Gerber Daisies, using tall, large flowers with smaller varieties grouped at their base. They also work well as potted plants. Tie a pretty ribbon around the pot in colors that correspond to your daisies for a lovely take home keepsake from baby showers or wedding receptions.
Gerber Daisy Arrangements - Where to Buy
Gerber Daisies can be found at your local garden center or online. You can buy the plants for your garden and harvest them for your own flower arrangements all season long. If you need a large quantity for a big event like a wedding reception, your local florist can provide them in quantity. They are a good value in comparison to the more expensive roses, lilies, and orchids. Whether you are using the delicate petite species or the bold showy blooms, alone or with other greenery, Gerber Daisies will add color and spice to any floral arrangement.
