Greenhouse Manufacturer
Many gardening lovers are taking their hobby to new heights by adding a backyard greenhouse to their property. There are a number of greenhouse manufacturers offering a wide variety of products. So who do you choose? We’ve selected our top three greenhouse manufacturers based on a review of the following criteria: number of models, quality of construction, available accessories, ease of assembly, warranty, price, and shipping methods.
Greenhouse Manufacturer – Rion Greenhouses
Rion Greenhouses seems to offer the best blend of quality and value. They offer seven different basic models in a wide variety of lengths. They are expandable in 4’ increments for further customization. The frame is primarily made of polyresin, which is more rigid than an aluminum frame. It also doesn’t bend if you step on it like an aluminum frame piece does! The panels are single or double layer polycarbonate. Most models come with a base kit, roof vents, louver windows, and gutters. There are also other options available to add to your kit. The instructions are detailed, with numerous illustrations to help you along the way. Rion offers a 20 year all purpose warranty. One of the best features of the Rion greenhouse is that they break the components down into smaller boxes and ship through standard residential shippers like UPS and Fedex. You won’t need a forklift to offload your kit when it arrives. With prices ranging from $1400 to $5000 dollars, Rion Greenhouses offer offers the best bang for your buck.
Greenhouse Manufacturer – Juliana Greenhouses
Another good value is the models offered by Juliana Greenhouses. Juliana offers eight basic models in varying sizes. They do not have expansion capabilities like the Rion models. The frame is a sturdy aluminum with extra thick (10mm) polycarbonate panels. Although the aluminum frame is not as strong as polyresin, the thicker panels lock and solidify the frame to the point that it has a higher wind/snow resistance rating than the Rion models. Juliana also offers many extras to add to your base kit. The installation instructions are not as clear as with the Rion model. The construction itself was similar in difficulty, but the poorly written instructions made it seem harder than it really is. Furthermore, the kit arrives via commercial freight so you will need a forklift, pallet jack or a team of big strong guys to offload it. Juliana offers a 5 year warranty on the panels and 20 year on the remaining components. Prices range from $675 to $14000. Overall, Juliana Greenhouses are a good value for those gardeners who need the extra wind and snow resistance due to harsh northern winters.
Greenhouse Manufacturer – Hobby Grower Greenhouses
If you are just getting started with greenhouse gardening, and you aren’t prepared to make a huge investment, consider the economy model offered by Hobby Grower Greenhouses. They only offer 2 models, both sized 6’x 8’. They do have expansion capabilities in 4’ increments. The frame is a combination of aluminum and polypropylene. It is not as solid as the other greenhouse manufacturers’ models, but sufficiently strong. The panels are single layer polycarbonate with nearly glass like clarity, without the breakage problems. These models do not offer the wind and snow resistance of the Rion or Juliana so they are not suitable for harsh winter climates. Installation is extremely easy with clear instructions. The Hobby Grower greenhouse carries a 5 year limited warranty. Given the small size of the Hobby Grower, it ships in easy to handle boxes, not on a huge pallet. Prices range from $900 to $1700. This is a great starter greenhouse for the beginner.
Selecting the right greenhouse kit can be an intimidating task. Evaluate your needs, your environment, your handyman capabilities and your financial commitment carefully. These variables will help you determine what you need from your greenhouse kit. Once that is determined, look at what each manufacturer offers and make your choice accordingly. Happy Gardening!
