As we know growing organic vegetables in our gardens and homes is a beneficial choice to purchasing produce from shops which have been subjected to numerous chemicals in the growing process.
When we prepare meals among the important ingredients are flavorings and these come in lots of types but in essence herbs make up a sizable proportion of these flavorings.
When growing organic vegetables it follows on then that we ought to also consider growing our own organic herbs as well.
Not only do herbs add flavor to our food but by growing our own organic herbs we now have yet another source of natural nutrients from our food. Therefore adding organic herbs to our garden presents us with fresh chemical free herbs to be used at any time.
You may be bowled over by the full taste of your own organically grown herbs as opposed to those you buy in a shop which have been chemically altered in the growing {cycle.
You will find} the following tips useful.
1: Seeds
You must make sure that your seeds are organic also have not been treated in anyway by chemical processes. They have to be chemical and pesticide free.
2: Mapping
Akin to your organic vegetable garden you should chart out your garden with some graph paper. Why is this important? It is important for the reason that many herbs and plants essentially grow better and provide extra produce if these are planted with certain others. There is also another added benefit which is often referred to as “companion Planting”. This also will help keep pests away from the produce.
3: Which herbs To Grow?
There are so many herbs you may choose from it would be impossible to list all of them here.
However widespread herbs like oregano, chives, parsley and even catnip are available. Like most seeds you will find that the packets themselves will provide you with lots of information on when to plant and how to plant them for best results.
4: Water
Just like your vegetables, organically grown herbs will want lots of irrigation. However always be aware not to under or over water them. Yet again the packets that the seeds appear in gives you this information. A good investment is a moisture soil kit. These little kits can give you a good indication of the level of moisture is in the soil.
5: Seed Packets
Whilst mentioning seed packets it is always useful if you keep the packets. One of the simplest ways I find is once empty, cut the packet in half so you have the front with the image and the back with the instructions in two separate pieces. You can then use the image half in the garden so that you know what you have got planted there and the back half with the instructions might be kept in a greenhouse or shed. You never know when you might have to reference something you could be growing.
