Jade plants grow best in hot and dry climate. Once planted on ideal conditions, the flowers bloom easily and naturally. However, when they are placed indoors, the blooms may not be as abundant. On top of that, this Argentine plant takes eight years before it gives its first bloom of flowers.
That being said, gardeners and enthusiasts do not buy the plant for its evasive petals. Instead, they favor more the glossy bluish green foliage that is so natural of Jade plant. After all, this is how it got its name. If planted on ideal conditions, Jade plant can reach its maximum height of ten feet. However, when they are indoors, they are kept at a particular height and size.
The soil needs to have drainage for the water not to sit on it. Also, soil soaked in water may cause the roots to rot. Potted Jade plants do not need heavy watering. It may do well if it is placed on a platter to catch water as it leaves the pot. All pots of your Jade plants should have drainage holes.
As part of taking care of your Jade plant, it is important that it does not get too dry; otherwise, it will damage the plant. Some indications of too dry soil are leaves falling off their stems, scraggly and leggy appearance. Now, if such things happen to your precious Jade plant, do not fret. All you have to do is water it, after which, you prune it.
The best way to avoid this incidence is to occasionally give the plant a light shower. Place it in the shower or sink, and allow the water to rain on it. The leaves are washed clean and the soil is gently soaked for awhile. The best time to water your Jade plant is in the evening. This makes the plant dry by morning, and thus, prevents it from burns from droplets.
It is noteworthy to know that if you water the plant little by little, it can make the soil to become rather dry, which encourages your Jade plant to grow little by little as well. If you plan to plant it indoors, slow watering is desirable. Besides water, the plant may also need sunlight. Putting them southward or southeast facing the window is ideal.
This way, the plant will have five hours of sun exposure, enough to make your Jade plant to thrive healthily. If you are interested in growing a new Jade plant, you can do so by having a new shoot from a good grower. A good grower ensures that his plants are well taken care of. You can find responsible growers from a nursery.
