Hydrangeas are annual bushes that are known to produce gigantic flower heads that come in a variety of colors such as blue, pink, and white. These bushes are very popular landscaping ornaments. You can find many online sites that have hydrangea seeds for sale ads aside from traditional gardening stores that carry them. Comparatively speaking it is way cheaper to grow hydrangea from seed. To start off, you need to first buy hydrangea seeds from a nursery or a gardening supplies store. It is also possible to get hydrangea seeds directly from the inside of this bush’s blossoms. You can identify the seeds by its color and appearance. Seeds are typically small and black/dark brown.
Next prepare the planting area by placing moist and nutrient-rich soil in a planter. Allot around an inch of space on the top of the planter. You can then throw in the hydrangea seeds on the soil. Sowing is best done indoors during summer. The hydrangea seeds should also receive ample light but not direct sun exposure. Apply fertilizer to the hydrangea seeds at least once every week and make sure to keep them also moist.
In spring, transplant the hydrangea outdoors. Choose an area that receives ample sun exposure.
Next, make holes whose individual size is equivalent to that of a root ball, and then place the hydrangeas seeds inside. Make sure to cover the hole afterwards with soil. Next, top the soil with mulch then sprinkle with water. After 6 weeks, apply fertilizer to the area. Make sure that the plants are watered frequently. Since this bush is prone to pests, it is recommended that you regularly treat your hydrangeas with insecticide. If you see some cases of mild dew, immediately spray the bushes with fungicide. Come winter or early spring, it is recommended that you prune your hydrangeas. However if you are unsure as to when is the best time to prune your hydrangeas, just leave them as they are and trim them only after they turn a healthy foliage.
If you want to change the color of your hydrangeas, change the acidity of the soil. It should be noted that with hydrangea seeds highly acidic soil produces blue flowers, while neutral soils yield white blossoms. Alkaline soils on the other hand are known to turn blossoms to pink. When you want to reduce the soil’s acidity, just add lime. On the other hand if you want to increase acidity, apply aluminum sulfate.
