Indoor Herb Garden Kits

   (Read 500+ times)
By Patricia Wainwright

There are 70 known herb cultivars and they are further divided into categories of medicinal, ornamental, aromatic, and culinary herbs. These herbs are actually very useful but are quite expensive especially in areas where they are not naturally grown. Growing your own herb garden can save you a lot of time and money that you’ll usually spend in or on groceries. Not having that space for a garden should not stop you from growing your own herb garden. There are already a lot of indoor herb garden kits from gardening stories that you can choose from. The following paragraphs will give you an idea of the ‘whats’ and ‘hows’ of growing herbs from indoor herb garden kits.

A lot of online gardening companies present different types of indoor herb garden kits. You can choose from the types of herbs you want to grow to the size of the indoor garden you want to produce. The customized indoor herb garden kits available range from culinary to medicinal indoor herb garden kits. Most average-prized indoor herb garden kits include an assortment of seeds, nutrient-rich soil created for them, and containers that will just be enough to hold all of them. Which type of seeds you wish to grow in your indoor garden will be for you to decide. Containers also come in different sizes. Regular sized garden trays and containers are about 1 foot in length, width, or diameter. Other indoor herb garden kits are even sold with container pairs or a few stackable and ‘hangable’ units that you can choose from.

The good thing about prepackaged indoor herb garden kits is the rich soil that comes with them. They are even less messy with companies now offering peat pellets that easily expand to form pot and soil with the addition of water. Also, CDs and instruction sheets for planting and growing them come with the package leaving the owner with nothing to do but read, listen, understand, and follow properly.

Growing plants from indoor herb garden kits actually depends on the type of herbs you are trying to grow. However, they usually require the same type of care as other indoor or container plants: proper drainage, enough sunlight, and adequate moisture. Since they are generally given as seeds, they will only need to be kept within greenhouse domes or any plastic lid that will help keep soil moisture intact. One disadvantage of purchasing indoor herb garden kits is the constant reduction of nutrients from watering. To prevent this from happening, constant fertilizer application should be done. As for sunlight, the perfect place to put indoor herb garden kits is the windowsill. Remember, indoor herbs will only need a minimum of four hours of light so unless you want your herbs dead, make sure that they do not get more than 16 hours under the sunlight.

Growing herbs from indoor herb garden kits do not really require a lot of expenses and hand work. Just make sure that you know your limit and provide them with enough sunlight, drainage, and nutrients.
