Landscape Tree Prices

   (Read 500+ times)
By Patricia Wainwright

When trying to decide on what trees to use for landscaping, most owners look for trees that remain attractive throughout the year. People like trees that produce flowers during spring, change colors during fall, or even bear fruit. Generally, there are three types of trees that people usually look for when thinking of landscaping: ornamental trees, evergreen trees, and shade trees. Landscape tree prices for these types differ according to the size they are sold in and the maximum height they can grow into.

Ornamental trees are flowering trees that are usually smaller than shade trees. They grow from 5 feet to more than 15 feet and are usually used to fill house corners, front lawns, and driveway entries. They are very interesting focal points especially when placed in a patio or close to a water feature because of their flowers and their interesting barks. The most popular ornamental trees are the Japanese Red Maple, the Weeping Cherry, the Dogwood Tree, and a few varieties of birch. Ornamental landscape tree prices range from $35 to $450.

Evergreen trees, as the name implies, are those that stay green throughout the year. They are mainly used as fences or backgrounds for plants for their texture and height. Evergreen trees are popular because they attract birds for nesting. They are mainly classified into dwarf and full grown based on the maximum size they can grow into. Dwarf evergreen trees range from 18 inches to 8 feet. The most popular are the arborvitae, some varieties of spruce, and the pine. Dwarf evergreen landscape tree prices range from $20 to $850. Large evergreens, on the other hand, can grow up to 25 feet. The most popular are the spruce, the fir, and the pine. Landscape tree prices for standard sizes (5 – 6 feet) start from as low as $100.

Shade trees are popular choices for recreation areas and parks for their shade and their ability to reduce heat and attract and sustain wildlife. They become a highlight when planted in groups and when placed in areas that need relief from the sun. Shade trees are deciduous. However, they are unable to provide windbreak and privacy during the colder seasons as their leaves fall during autumn. The mature size of shade trees ranges from 30 to 100 feet. Prices usually start at $145. Red Maples and pear varieties are the most popular for landscaping.

Landscape tree prices vary according to type and size. The cheapest are ornamental trees that are generally smaller than the other two types. However, for buyers who are into investment and long-term sustainability purposes, evergreen and shade trees are still the most practical choice.
