Lawn Tractor Attachments

   (Read 500+ times)
By Patricia Wainwright

Lawn tractors are definite must-haves for those who prefer to buy multi-tasking machines instead of specialized ones. They not only mow the lawn but also weed, tow, and maintain, a job that would require at least three different gardening tools. This ability to do almost everything is due to lawn tractor attachments that can come and go as you need or please.

Lawn tractor attachments include aerators, snow throwers, loaders, and sunshades. When homeowners prefer to cultivate their lawns and gardens especially during spring, lawn tractor attachments that they can use include tillers, cultivators, disks, and plows. Tillers, for example, are operated using a tractor hydraulic lift, which makes it more convenient for the driver. They can till up to 90 inches of soil, especially the heavy-duty ones. Other lawn tractor attachments that can do digging tasks are backhoes, which can dig up to 8.5 feet of soil and can rotate to 180º. Lawn aerators are also common lawn tractor attachments that come in many shapes and sizes. The most common are spike aerators and core aerators. Experts actually recommend using core aerators since they can pull up a large portion of the soil.

Other lawn tractor attachments include loaders which come in many forms and sizes, depending on the tractor type. Rotary mowers are usually rear-mounted and are operated like lawn mowers. The only difference between the two is the lawn tractor’s ability to mow an area that is 72 inches wide and 2 to 5 inches tall.

Just like other tractor types, lawn tractors can also be used to lift heavy objects through attached loaders. These lawn tractor attachments are operated through a joystick and can even be used for grappling, scraping, or blading.

When autumn leaves fall, lawn tractor attachments such as shovels and utility trailers can help make clean-up easier. Come winter, lawn tractors can also be used to throw or shovel snow out of the yard. Lawn tractor attachments like snow blowers or snow throwers can cover a maximum of 2 acres of land and can even free terrains of snow.

Since engines of lawn tractors come with a higher horsepower, they can also be converted into generators. However, this requires a particular set of skill that only professionals usually have. Lawn tractors are extremely dangerous gardening equipment. They should always be handled with care and caution.

For homeowners with bigger lawns and gardens or rougher terrains to maintain, lawn tractors are recommended. They do not require a lot of work, are extremely efficient, fast, and energy-saving. They even come with a variety of lawn tractor attachments that can be used to do a lot of things including tilling, digging, cultivating, carrying, and other maintenance work.
