Lawn and Garden Power Tools

   (Read 500+ times)
By Patricia Wainwright

Leafing through the pages of a tool catalog, you’ll probably see hundreds of lawn and garden power tools that offer to give you a hand in caring for your plants and maintaining your outdoor space. The trick is in choosing what is necessary. What do you really need? How much are you willing to spend? What kind of maintenance does your lawn or your garden require? Answering this questions will not only narrow down your list of must-have lawn and garden power tools, it will also help you realize what type of tool to splurge on and what to pinch pennies on.

Minimal maintenance outdoor areas will only need a few lawn and garden power tools: a lawn mower, a trimmer, an edger, a lawn sweeper, and an irrigation sprinkler. These lawn and garden power tools are the basic necessities that can keep a small space neat, clean, and lush green. A lawn mower should probably be first on your shopping list. Basically, it’s a machine that cuts grass at an even length. It employs a rotating blade and comes in different types.

A trimmer, on the other hand, is one of those lawn and garden power tools that use a different mechanism instead of a cutting blade. This mechanism is designed not just to cut grass but also woody plants and small shrubs, making the trimmer one of the lawn and garden power tools that can be helpful in weeding.

Other lawn and garden power tools that can be handy are the lawn sweeper and the edger. A lawn sweeper is useful in removing all types of litter from the lawn or the garden. Like other lawn and garden power tools, it has a mechanism that allows it to sweep up debris like leaves, grass clippings, and other types of trash, which it then deposits in a built-in hopper. It’s a great alternative to raking and sweeping and is more commonly known as a leaf sweeper. An edger is one of those lawn and garden power tools that can run by gasoline or electricity. Its main use is for separating the lawn from a paved surface such as a path or a sidewalk. It gives the lawn border a neater and more finished appearance than other lawn and garden power tools like the mower and prevents the ragged look of unevenly cut grass.

Another tool that should be prioritized when planning a garden are the irrigation sprinklers. Also known as lawn sprinklers, these are man’s answer to drought and can help maintain the lush foliage of both lawns and gardens. Usually installed as a part of sprinkler system, irrigation sprinklers provide water automatically on a schedule.

These five lawn and garden power tools are the basics that every gardener and homeowner must invest in if you want an attractive, neat, and lush-looking lawn and garden. They will not only be saving you time and money, they’ll cut back the effort that you need to put in maintaining your outdoor space.
