Leaf Mulcher

   (Read 500+ times)
By Patricia Wainwright

Getting rid of leaves during fall can be pesky, annoying, and a lot of work. The effort of going back and forth to collect and put them in garbage bags can be eliminated by proper equipment. The leaf mulcher is one of them. Aside from getting rid of leaves, leaf mulchers are also helpful gardening tools. Since mulch is an important material for gardening, getting a leaf mulcher will reduce the need of making mulch manually.

Current models of the leaf mlucher are often combined with chippers to maximize their mulching capacity. Since mulch can also be made from sawdust and very thin chips of wood, a leaf mulcher and chipper can maximize the amount of work done in the shortest period of time.

Flowtron is a popular provider of leaf mulchers and chippers. It has two models that are out in the market: the Flowtron Model No. LE-800 and the Flowtron Model No. LE-900. The Flowtron LE-800 is the standard leaf mulcher from the company. Costing around $170, this leaf mulcher can reduce the size of a leaf up to 30 times. It has a thermally-protected universal motor that is completely secure from overloading. This motor even runs on ordinary home electricity. The pros of this leaf mulcher include the coarse to fine adjustment mechanism that allows the operator to control particle size, the instant disposal system that makes discarding quick and easy, and the removable stands that give the operator more control of the process. The Flowtron LE-800 has a 21-inch funnel diameter that is designed to prevent messy throwbacks. It also has a 1-bushel hopper capacity and a 2-stage shredding system that meticulously finishes the job. All parts of this leaf mulcher including the 36 cutting lines, housing, polyethylene funnel, and the circuit breaker are made of heavy-duty industry-grade materials designed for long years of use. Yet, it remains one the most lightweight in the market.

The LE-900 is the bigger leaf mulcher from Flowtron. It retails at around $185 and is created for more heavy-duty mulching. It also has an 8 amp thermally-protected motor that runs on ordinary current and a course-to-fine adjustment system that can work on grass clippings, pine needles, and even thatch. Pressure knobs of this leaf mulcher are also adjustable, allowing the hopper to be tilted or rotated at 180 degrees for easy loading and storage. Parts of the LE-900 are all industry-grade. The bungee cord holds the leaf bag in place. The double cutting lines are made of steel and polyethylene, ensuring protection against wear and tear. The motor has a removable filter and the handles are cushioned, making it easy to operate and maintain. For a leaf mulcher this high-quality, it’s pretty lightweight, weighing only 17 pounds.

The leaf mulcher is a good investment for a gardening/maintenance equipment. It does not only save the operator’s time and effort, it also helps reduce waste in the environment.
