Mail Order Dwarf Fruit Trees

   (Read 500+ times)
By Patricia Wainwright

Fruit trees are a handy addition to the kitchen garden. They provide fresh fruit for your table and can be added without taking up much in the way of space due to the availability of a wide variety of dwarfed species. In fact, if you don’t have space in your garden to add fruit trees, dwarf species can be grown in pots on your patio or in your sunroom. The question is – do you go down to the local garden center for your fruit trees or take advantage of the large number of mail order nurseries to make your purchase?

There are plenty of reasons to purchase mail order dwarf fruit trees. First of all, you will generally have a larger number of varieties to choose from. As an example, your local garden center may only stock 4 -5 types of apple trees. But go to the online catalog of any large mail order nursery and you will find at least twice as many species in a variety of sizes. It is much easier to find the one that best suits your needs from the larger supplies of the commercial mail order nurseries. Secondly, the mail order nurseries, by virtue of the size of their operation, can generally offer better pricing than the local nurseries. I have found mail order dwarf fruit trees online at half the price of the local businesses.

However, as with any mail order purchase, you don’t know what you’ll get until you receive it. At your local garden center, you can inspect the trees and personally select the healthiest specimens. Furthermore, the locally purchased tree can go right from the store to your garden and does not spend any time in transit where it can be damaged or pick up fungus or pests. Also, if the tree were to experience difficulties, it is easier to return to the local business for an exchange or refund.

Many mail order nurseries have a fine reputation for quick shipment and replacement of any damaged items. Therefore, if you make the decision to purchase mail order dwarf fruit trees, it is essential that you carefully research the organization you use for your purchase. Check with your local Better Business Bureau for any unresolved complaints against the company. You can also connect with other gardeners and ask for their positive or negative experiences with mail order nurseries. Finally, there are several websites, such as Garden Watchdog, that post reviews of mail order nurseries.

Mail order dwarf fruit trees are a fine option for gardeners looking to add to their orchard. The lower pricing and wide variety of species are attractive benefits. As with any other business transaction, it is important to develop trust in the company you are purchasing from. Use all your resources to check out a company’s reputation before you buy. Look for a company that is proven to provide healthy specimens and has an excellent track record in resolving complaints. Finally, take decisive action if you are unhappy with the transaction. Once you find a mail order nursery you can trust, you will have a reliable resource for all your gardening needs.
