Patio Garden Design

   (Read 500+ times)
By Patricia Wainwright

There are two reasons why homeowners build patio gardens: entertainment and relaxation. The aim of patio garden design is mostly functional. It is done to make an extra space useful for a family. Before setting off to purchase all the things you think you need, you first need to establish what you want your space to be. Do you like organizing parties and having friends over for dinner? Do you prefer being alone with a book while sipping your favorite drink? Do you have children that often run around the place? Ask yourself these questions in order to know which patio garden design plan will work best for you.

Once you’ve decided on this, start assessing the space. Record the amount of sun every part of the space gets the whole day and plan your patio garden design around it. Keep a record of sun and shade patterns for several days or maybe a week. Then, get into the purchasing of plants and furniture. If you want a space for entertainment, choose interesting furniture pieces that can be the subject of conversations in colors that liven up the space. Also, choose plants that go well with the color palette your patio garden design is going for. If you’re into a relaxing space, choose pieces in colors that can soothe the senses. Purchase evergreen plants or those that give pastel-colored flowers. These can complete the space and make your patio garden design work for you.

Most plants used in patio garden design are short or those that can be placed in containers. Trees that are chosen are usually those that do not grow more than 10 feet. An example is the bonfire patio peach that matures at about six foot and boasts of pink blossoms in spring. This tree in a sitting area can make an outdoor space cozy. Potted plants are also another way to add visual interest to a patio garden design. The good thing about them is that they can be moved and rearranged as you please. Just make sure that they are placed in areas where their required sun or shade is met. You can even choose to hang your potted plants beside windows or on exposed beams to make your patio garden design more romantic.

If you plan to push the envelope with your patio garden design, a pergola or a cabana can be a dramatic feature. This covered space can be as simple as a tent-like structure or as grand as an exotic shed with cloth hangings, lamps, rugs, and throw pillows. Whatever patio garden design you choose, just make sure that it fits the life you live to really get the value for your money and utilize the space you have.
