Ground Cover. Use small river rocks to cover the part of the garden under a water spigot to keep it from getting muddy or in other areas of the lawn where you do not wish to put plants or grass groundcover. Create a design using different colors, sizes and shapes of rocks. For example, you can add the river rocks between flagstones. River rocks are ideal for ground cover because of their smooth surface and their varied colors.

The fountain can itself be built with rocks. Rocks have always been use to highlight garden water features. There is something magical and calming about the sight of water or the sound of flowing water.
