Royers Flowers had humble beginnings in 1937 when the matriarch of the family, Hannah Royer started selling African violets she grew in her home at a farmer’s market and a garment’s factory.
Gradually, interest grew so much that the family had to put up greenhouses to keep up with the demand for their produce. Little did everyone in the family know, the Royers flower brand was starting to take shape.
Everyone in the family helped out, from the husband to the children to keep Royers Flowers going. Eventually, they branched out to wholesale selling to florist shops in and around the Lancaster Lebanon and County area. Royers Flowers was doing so well that Hannah’s husband Lester, decided to quit his teaching position to concentrate full time on the business.
As time went, tastes and preferences evolved and Royers Flowers would eventually adapt to the times. Increasingly, more and more people were requesting for cut flowers. By 1945, to address the emerging appetite for these products, the Royers converted their two-car garage into a flower shop. The first Royers flower shop was born.
In the first years of the business, Hannah managed everything in the store except for deliveries, which was handled by her son, Kenneth. Business also picked up primarily because of the family’s commitment to please customers. Hannah rarely said no to customer requests. She would sometimes get asked by clients to make animal shaped flower arrangements such as deer or horses for funerals and she never turned them down. On occasions she would stay up all night to work on these types of “unconventional” orders.
Today the company is named Royers flowers and gifts, one of the biggest retail florists in the country and a recognized leader in the flower business. From then until now, the company always puts premium in customer satisfaction, constantly looking for ways to please clients. They have also kept their two car garage in Lancaster, the site of their first flower store, intact to remind them of their beginnings. The company is now headed by Kenneth -- the son of Hannah and Lester -- who is in charge of the overall operations of the company and who also shows the same zeal and enthusiasm that his parents had for the business.
To give customers the opportunity to purchase items at a discount on all stores, the company issues Royers flower coupons which are also available online. Offering coupons is just one of the many ways Royers makes the shopping experience of clients convenient and memorable.
