How to get started in hydroponics
For those who are not sure; hydroponics is soil-less gardening indoors. It is a growing system that speeds up growth of a variety of plants and herbs, but allows the gardener to grow in very small spaces, like a cupboard or under the stairs. A type of hydroponics is aeroponics, where plants are suspended above a reservoir of nutrient solution, and sprayers or nozzles mist the plant roots which then absorb the nutrients in a highly oxygenated way, increasing growth. Hydroponics is replacing the drip irrigation methods of growing, and there are several ways a beginner can learn the basics of hydroponics. Stealth Hydro sells a basic, deep water culture system, whereby the plant roots lie in a constantly aerated nutrient solution, this is cheap and a good starter kit for beginners. However, the complete hydroponics method of growing also includes grow lights so that the plants can be grown anywhere in the house.
Aeroponics explained
In the method, known as aeroponics, the nutrient solution is infused with oxygen, this helps the roots to absorb nutrients more easily and swifter than other methods. This speeds up growth resulting in amazing yields. The solution is delivered via sprayers, nebulizers or foggers. In the horticultural industry, this technique is used in the cultivation of high-value crops, or for growing specimen plants, such as orchids. Any solution not absorbed by the plant drips back into the reservoir beneath, so no wastage. Nebulizers and foggers can deliver a finer spray of nutrients, which are more readily absorbed and help avoid the roots becoming matted. Stealth Hydro sells aeroponics systems that start from around $200, without lighting, up to $1200 for a 60 plant system.
Advances in technology
Stealth Hydro have taken aeroponics a step further, and developed the stealth hydro bubbleponics® system, which costs between $100 and $400 making it a viable option for the hydroponics beginner. Bubbleponics® is a system where highly oxygenated nutrient solution is delivered directly to the inner root zone. It automatically maintains the optimum oxygen level of the nutrient and instead of it dripping back into the reservoir; the system creates a constant feed flow of nutrients to the inner roots. The result is accelerated growth, healthier plants, and a self-contained system that requires minimum maintenance. It is incredibly easy to manage this system and learn how to use it. Stealth Hydro has made hydroponics available to the amateur at a reasonable price and with an easy method.
