The Benefits of Plastic Garden Storage Boxes

   (Read 500+ times)
By Patricia Wainwright

If, like me, your shed is full to bursting, but you really cannot afford a new one, you need to rethink your garden storage options. A new shed is a lovely item, and great fun to choose, and design, and even more fun to build, but it is expensive. If you want to be able to get into your shed without old pots of paint landing on your head each time you move something, then plastic garden storage boxes are a great solution. They are weather resistant, are available in loads of different sizes and are perfect for all those awkward items that tend to fall off shelves.

What types of large garden storage boxes are available?

This type of storage will only be useful if it is a decent size, and not too expensive. The plastic garden storage box tends to be rectangular, although there are some that are upright, mimicking shed design. The benefit of a rectangular, chest shaped box is that it will fit in more places in the garden, as it will not show over your fences or walls. A popular style is the deck box, great for putting barbecue items in, storing plant feeds, compost, and items for patio maintenance and pot plant care. It sits on the deck, and all items are handy, unlike the shed in the corner of the garden. Most deck boxes are made from high-density polyurethane and are lockable, important if any sharp objects or insecticides are stored there. They range in price from around $90 to $200 depending on size; some even have wheels and some have a padded seat top which is great extra seating for your deck or patio. Other large garden storage boxes look more like sheds, are upright and lockable and retail from $150 to over $400.

Alternative uses for plastic garden storage boxes.

The large plastic box in your garden is more versatile than for chucking in anything that will not fit in your shed. There are special designs for hiding your garden hose, great to protect the rubber from the sun; designs for sliding your trash can into, hiding it and its smells away from public view. There are blue plastic garden storage boxes that can be used by your pool, for storing all the pool cleaning and maintenance items. The best way to look at these boxes is like a handy storage item, close to where you need it, at the size for the items you want to store.
