The Jasmine Seeds

   (Read 500+ times)
By Patricia Wainwright

Most Jasmine plant types are woody shrubs but there are a handful of species that are classified either as a climbing or trailing vine. There are around 200 types of this plant. The Jasmine is commonly found throughout parts of Asia, Europe and Africa and is also considered to thrive well in warm temperature climates. You normally grow these plants from Jasmine seeds.

Jasmine seeds can be bought from gardening stores, nurseries and even online shops. Examples of seed types available are the night blooming jasmine seeds and the star jasmine seeds. Jasmine seeds come from the pod of the Jasmine plant.

Like any other plant, the Jasmine can be pollinated by insects. In nature once it is fertilized, the plant will produce pods. Once the pod is ripe enough it will burst open and spill seeds out. If you must get seeds yourself, then it is recommended that you pick ripe pods before they become too heavy. If you don not have a Jasmine plant, you can buy Jasmine seeds from reputable gardeners or plant breeders. You can also find reputable websites where there are Jasmine seeds for sale.

Once you have the Jasmine seeds, the next step is to soak them. After soaking, plant the seeds into a starting seed mix and then cover it with soil. The seeds must be kept warm to induce germination. If the seed is given enough warmth, then the germination rate will be faster. Good conditions can result to seeds being germinated in a month. Once it has sprouted, the young Jasmine can now be transferred to a planter or a small pot that contains a mixture of soil and fertilizer. Once the plant has settled into its container, a proper amount of water must be given to the plant. Just like any other plant it must be maintained and taken care of to ensure that it grows well.

There are different species of the Jasmine plant and the appearance and characteristics of each vary. Remember that each Jasmine plant produces its own unique seed. It is thus important that you pick the one or ones that would match your home or garden. Since there are many types of Jasmine seeds, it can be likely that you get a seed that does not produce a plant that you would want in your garden. It is thus recommended that you research or ask around to ensure that you get the right Jasmine seed or plant for your yard.
