The Lawn Paint

   (Read 500+ times)
By Patricia Wainwright

Do you sometimes wish that your lawn has the sparkling green color of healthy grass always? Dream no more - there is lawn paint to give your lawn the lush green color of natural grass almost all year round, except during snowy winters. You can buy commercially-prepared lawn paint and have it sprayed by experts or you can make one yourself.

Lawn paint is an artificial permanent dye that restores the natural rich green color of your lawn in minutes or a few hours and is suitable for all types of grass. Commercially prepared lawn paint can last for months while self-prepared lawn paint can last for one to 2 months. It is not chemical-based and is therefore safe to use. It will not harm people, your grass, plants and trees, your pets and wildlife. You are, in effect, conserving the environment when you use lawn paints. It can also save you time and money, and it can withstand harsh environmental variables. Lawn paints have reportedly reduced watering costs by about 20%.

Why do lawns need lawn paint? Environmental pressures particularly during fall and winter make your grass lose its natural green color. Lack of rain and drought during summer turn your grass into pale green or brown. Any other time of the season, your lawn can look anemic, have discolorations or some bald spots because of over-fertilization, foot traffic, or simply neglect. Having the rich green color in your lawn increases the beauty of your pathways, curb ways to your home, the sitting areas in your lawn, your patios, and all the water and physical features in your garden. Here is how to apply prepared lawn paint.

Step 1 Mix the lawn paint or dye in water. Follow proportions as suggested
in the packaging of the lawn paint.
Step 2 Get your lawn sprayer.

Step 3 Spray your lawn per instructions.

Here are the steps in preparing home-made lawn paint: The materials you will need are: fertilizer, Epsom salt, green food dye, buckets, stirring stick, and lawn sprayer. The resulting mixture can paint about 1,000 square feet of grass.

Step 1 In a large bucket, combine fertilizer and Epsom salt. To ensure an even and smooth consistency of the mixture. It is advisable to use a stirrer or a stirring stick.

Step 2 Add the green dye to the mixture and stir thoroughly until the color green is even in all the mixture.

Step 3 Spread the mixture, like fertilizer, equally over the lawn using a lawn sprayer.

Step 4 To ensure that the dye is effective, lightly water the lawn.

As a reminder, do not use home-made lawn paint if there are forecasts of even moderate rain in the near future as it may completely wash away the green dye. It is also advisable to paint your lawn every one to two months.

Lawn paints give your lawns the refreshing and lush natural green color of grass. However, do not neglect caring for or fertilizing your lawn grass. Lawn paint still does not take the place of a naturally healthy grass.
