I wish I could buy a riding mower. First of all, I’m lazy. Secondly, I think riding mowers are cool. Unfortunately, I don’t have a big enough lawn or a big enough budget to justify buying a riding mower. So, instead, I went looking at walk behind mowers. There were so many options that I realized I would have to sit down and figure out what I needed in a lawn mower to get the best fit for my lawn and my budget.
Walker Lawn Mowers For Sale - Considerations
Things to consider when choosing a lawn mower include – the size of your lawn; the terrain to include any slopes, ditches or steep grades; the amount of obstacles to include trees, flower beds, and play equipment; your type of lawn (is the grass dense, quick growing, etc.); and how much money you can spend. Another important decision is whether to bag or mulch. Mulching mowers shred the grass into smaller pieces which are returned to your yard where they decompose and act as natural fertilizer. Bagging mowers catch the grass clippings in a bag, which you have to empty periodically. Many mowers have the ability to switch from bagging to mulching and this feature generally does not add much to the cost, so go for the dual option whenever possible.
Walker Lawn Mowers For Sale - Models
Gas powered walker mowers come in self-propelled or push models. Self-propelled models move on their own. You simply guide the mower across your yard and around turns. Push mowers have to be pushed (obviously!). If your yard is over ½ acre or has a lot of slopes and grade changes, consider the self-propelled mower. Most have adjustable speeds so you can set it to a comfortable walking pace and it will perform better on slopes. Self-propelled mowers are more mechanically complex than push mowers so they cost more and tend to require more maintenance. If your yard is less than ½ acre and relatively flat, a push mower should be adequate.
Walker Lawn Mowers For Sale - Electric Mowers
If you are environmentally conscious, you should consider an electric mower. The new model electric mowers have a lot to offer. They are as easy to start as pushing a button, they are very quiet, and they are better for the environment because they do not release pollutants into the atmosphere. I recommend that you do not buy a model that requires an extension cord because you are limited in your mobility by the length of the cord. The majority of the new electric models are battery-charged and give you about one hour of mowing time. If buying a cordless model, buy a spare battery. Two hours of mowing time should allow you to complete a ½- ¾ acre yard.
If you’re like me, you have a love/hate relationship with your lawn. You love have a relaxing outdoor area for your family to enjoy during the summer months. You hate the care and upkeep that your lawn requires. You can reduce the hassle by purchasing the mower that is bested suited to your lawn specifications. Knowing what you need before heading to the store will make choosing a lawn mower a much easier task.
