   (Read 500+ times)
By Patricia Wainwright

What is a corn planter?

It seems obvious that a corn planter is a machine that plants corn, but there is a variety and two distinct types of customer for corn planters. These machines were originally designed for industrial use by farmers, but more and more gardeners are turning to growing their own vegetables, so the corn planter has been adapted for private consumer use, which has necessitated a trimmed down version. A corn planter essentially is a series of hoppers, and tubes down which the corn flows, to be dispensed according to the size of the plates at the bottom. Some corn planters also have a fertilizer dispenser mounted to spread fertilizer as you plant. The more sophisticated corn planters are no-till varieties that allow you to plant the corn without preparing the bed by tilling. There is a variety of corn planters for sale for the vegetable gardener and some are more appropriate than others.

Types of corn planters for sale

You can buy new corn planters from the manufacturers, some who have tailored their products for the non industrial user, however, the market for second hand corn planters is very good, and you can pick up a reasonably priced corn planter in fair condition. You will find a lot of second hand john deere corn planters for sale as the company is focusing on the larger industrial highly automated products, rather than the domestic smaller versions. Essentially when you search for used corn planters for sale, you will need to decide how many rows of corn you want to plant. The majority of corn planters are described by the unit, or row to define their size. The greater the number of rows and features the higher will be the price. The units bolt together, so you can either, start with one row, and then later buy an additional unit for your 1 row planter, as long as it is the same manufacturer, or check out the 2 row corn planters for sale.

Where can I find corn planters for sale?
