Did you know that a yard tiller is simply a motorized plow - and that it is also known today as a rototiller or a cultivator? Did you also know that the Yardman tiller have always been one of the more renowned and trusted brands of rototillers in the market today and that its award-winning manufacturer has earned a worldwide reputation for excellence in quality and service? The Yardman tiller product line includes various types and models to suit the size and type of your garden.
Yardman tillers continue to be one of the leading brands of yard tillers in the country and in the world; even if the newer models have undergone changes in their brand name.
Choosing the Right Yard Tiller
There are two basic types of tillers - the rear-tine tillers and the front-tine tillers. As suggested by the name, the rear-tine tillers are located behind the wheels and the two main types of rear-tine tillers are - standard rotating tines and counter rotating tines. Front-tine tillers have their tines located at the front of the wheels and under the engine.
Gardening experts say that rear-tine tillers are best for large areas and hard or compacted soil. The reverse is true for front-tine tillers, which are ideal for smaller areas - gardens less than 1,000 square feet, and gardens with soft soils. Rototillers are powered by either gasoline or electricity. While they perform better, gas tillers are noisier (85 decibels and higher) and require more maintenance. On the other hand, electric tillers are quieter and do not need as much maintenance.
Types of Yardman Tillers
Yardman tillers include both front and tine tillers and has various models depending on width of tine and whether these are powered by gasoline or electricity. In recent years the manufacturer of Yardman tillers, MTD, stopped using the Yardman brand for tillers. The Yard-Man brand is now a brand name for lawn mowers (except that the spelling is slightly different); and the brand names for tillers have become Remington, Bolens, or Yard Machines. The tine diameter range of these tillers range from 8 to 12 inches and all are forward rotating with no power reverse capability. The Remington brand is front-tined and is run by electricity. The Bolens brand is rear-tined and is powered by either electricity or gas while the Yard Machines are front-tined and are also run by gasoline. The features, strong performance and durability that have made Yardman tillers a respected brand have been carried over and further improved in these new brand names.
However, Yardman tiller parts of various models are still widely available and can be purchased online. Some of these parts include throttle trigger assembly, bolts, grip, washer, throttle cable, screws, and others.
To keep your tillers in excellent working condition for a long period of time, always clean it after use. Clean the air filter after 10 hours of use and replace your spark plug after 25 hours of use. Clean the engine with a clean brush or cloth and do not use pressure washer to clean the tines as they may be damaged.
Get the tiller that knows how to break up your soil better, in the process aerating it and weeding it to allow better root growth and healthy flora. Do wonders with a Yardman tiller like reshaping your lawn and many more. The uses of Yardman tillers are boundless and they do the job of tilling better than most tillers.
